Republic Day is a national festival of India which is celebrated on 26 January every year since 1950. On this day in the year 1950, Indian Republic and its Constitution came into force. The true significance of 26th January Republic Day lies in 26 November which is celebrated as Constitution Day. On 26 November 1949 constituent assembly adopted the Indian Constitution which came into full effect on 26 January 1950.
Significance of 26 January
Every year 26th January is a day when every Indian heart fills up with patriotic fervour and immense love for our motherland India. There are many significant memories of this day. It was this day when the Indian Tricolour was first unfurled by Pt Jawaharlal Nehru in January 1930 at Lahore. The declaration of an independent Indian National Congress was also made on this day. On 26th January, 1950 Indian republic and its constitution came into force. It was 26th January 1965 in history when Hindi was declared as the official language of India.
Republic Day Celebration
Republic Day is celebrated every year with great enthusiasm and effervescent across the country. To mark the importance of this occasion, a grand parade is performed in the national capital New Delhi on this Day. The Parade is held from Raisina Hill near the Rashtrapati Bhavan (President's House), along the Rajpath, past India Gate and on to the historic Red Fort, New Delhi.

This auspicious event begins with the Prime Minister of India laying a wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate commemorating all the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country. Soon after this, a 21 gun salute is presented and the President of India unfurls the National Flag and the National Anthem is played and the grand parade begins. The President is accompanied by a notable foreign Head of State - who is invited as Chief Guest at the celebration.
Republic Day Parade
The Parade begins with gallantry awards winners passing the President of India in open jeeps. President of India takes the salute at the grand parade as President is the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces. After this Indian Military also showcases its latest acquisitions such as missiles, tanks, radars, etc.

Soon after, awards and medals of bravery are given to the people from the armed forces for their exceptional courage in the field and also to those civilians who have distinguished themselves by their different acts of bravery in different situations. The military parade is followed by a colourful cultural parade and then India's rich cultural heritage is depicted in the form of tableaus from various states. The tableau depicts unique festivals, historical locations and art of particular State. This exhibition of diversity and richness of different cultures of India lends a festive air to this occasion.
Tableaus on Republic Day
In addition to this, Tableaus from various government department and ministries of India are also presented. This displays their contribution towards the progress of the nation. The most merriment section of the parade is when the children who have won National Bravery Awards ride past the dais on elephants. School-children from across the country also participate in the parade and showcase folk dances and singing to the tunes of patriotic songs.

Armed Forces skillful motor-cycle rides are also included in the parade which is performed by Armed Forces personnel. The most eagerly awaited part of the parade is the fly past by Indian Air Force.
