Earth Day 2021 was celebrated on 22 April 2021 across the world. The theme of Earth Day 2021 was 'Restore Our Earth'. Earth Day 2021 theme features five programmes i.e. Canopy Project, Food and Environment, Climate Literacy, the Global Earth Challenge, and The Great Global CleanUp.
Climate change and environmental degradations have broken our natural systems. These degradations leading to new and fatal diseases as well as a breakdown of the global economy. Climate change and coronavirus remind us of the harm that we have caused, Restore Our Earth reminds us of the opportunities that lay ahead to protect our earth. We must Restore Our Earth not just because we care about the nature and natural world but because we live on it. A healthy planet where we can live happily is not an option, it is a necessity. Every one of us needs a healthy Earth for good livelihoods, health & survival, and happiness.
Earth Day Theme 2021: Restore Our Earth
The theme of Earth Day 2021 is 'Restore Our Earth'. It features five programmes i.e. Canopy Project, Food and Environment, Climate Literacy, the Global Earth Challenge, and The Great Global CleanUp.
Canopy Project: Canopy project has been ameliorating our shared environment by planting trees across the globe since 2010. Celebrating the Earth Day tens of millions of trees have been plated by The Canopy Project.
Food and Environment: A foodprint measures the environmental impacts with growing, producing, transporting and storing of our food items from the natural resources consumed to the pollution produced to the greenhouse gases emitted. Earth Day is working to reduce foodprints.
Climate Literacy: This formal campaign was launched in Summer 2020 combining grassroots support and on the ground efforts by students, educators, and nonprofits with national level commitments from Ministries of Education and Environment. On the eve of Earth Day, Climate and Environmental Literacy Campaign ensure that students across the world benefit from high-quality education to develop into informed and engaged environmental stewards.
Global Earth Challenge: It gives citizen scientists the power to make the world a better place. The Global Earth Challenge campaign uses a mobile app to collect billions of observations in air quality, quality of water, insect populations, climate change, plastic pollution viz single use plastic pollution, food sustainability, providing valuable environmental insight and a platform for policy change and restoration efforts in these areas.
The Great Global CleanUp: When it comes to individual action for the common good on Earth Day 2021, cleaning up our public spaces is one of the best ways that people can make an impact for our planet. Problem of pollution is getting out of hand and our environment is suffering from it. The Great Global CleanUp campaign on Earth Day encourage people to participate in cleanliness activities on the occasion of Earth Day 2021.
