Ambedkar Jayanti 2024 is on 14 April 2024 which is observed on the birth anniversary of B. R. Ambedkar on 14 April. Commemorating the contributions of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar for strong foundation of nation and society every year on 14th April Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated. On the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti Hon’ble President of India, Hon’ble Prime Minister and leaders of major political parties pay homage at the statue of Ambedkar at the Parliament of India in New Delhi. Processions are also carried out by his followers at Chaitya Bhoomi in Mumbai and Deeksha Bhoomi in Nagpur on Ambedkar Jayanti.

Dr. B R Ambedkar was civil rights activist who struggled for equality throughout the life to annihilate the practice of untouchability. He is also know as Chief Architect of Indian Constitution because of his important role in drafting Indian Constitution.

Ambedkar Jayanti as 'Equality Day'

In India, Ambedkar Jayanti is also celebrated as ‘Equality Day’ as Dr. B R Ambedkar struggled for equality throughout his life. The demand for celebrating birth day of Dr. B R Ambedkar as International Equality Day is also goes to United Nations.

Ambedkar Jayanti is an annual festival observed on 14 April every year on the birth date of Dr. B R Ambedkar to commemorate B. R. Ambedkar and his contributions towards society. He was and Indian polymath and civil rights activist. Ambedkar Jayanti marks Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's birth anniversary who was born on 14 April 1891. In India, Ambedkar Jayanti is observed as an official public holiday. Due to his contribution for upliftment of the society, Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated not just in India but all around the world.

Tributes to Dr. B R Ambedkar

On the occasion of birth anniversary of Dr. B R Ambedkar, Hon’ble President of India, Hon’ble Prime Minister and other leaders pay homage at the statue of Ambedkar at the Parliament of India in New Delhi and remember the contributions of Babasaheb towards nation and society. Paying tributes to Babasaheb Ambedkar, Indian Post issued stamps dedicated to Ambedkar's birthday in 1966, 1973, 1991, 2001, and 2013, and featured him on other stamps in 2009, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2020. He was also bestowed with Bharat Ratna award posthumously on 14 April 1990 and a portrait was also unveiled in the Central Hall of Parliament on the day. In the memory of B R Ambedkar, the period from 14 April 1990 to 14 April 1991 was observed as "Year of Social Justice". Marking the 125 Birth Anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Government of India Issued 10 Rupees and 125 Rupees coins in year 2015.

In addition to this, many of the countries across the world celebrating Dr. B R Ambedkar’s Jayanti as ‘Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Day of Equality’.
