What is Hate Speech

The term hate speech is any kind of communication in speech or writing that attacks or uses pejorative or discriminatory, loose /foul language against a person or a group, religion, ethnicity, nationality, race, colour, descent, gender or other identity factors that may threaten social peace. Hate speech always calling for violence against particular Race, Religion or Gender.

In other words, speech that carries no meaning other than the expression of hatred for some Group, especially in circumstances in which the communication is likely to provoke the violence may called hate speech. Reason of Hate Speech

Some Individuals or Individual Race or community believe that they are superior than a class or Group or Gender or that particular class or Group or Gender can’t have the same social/financials rights as they have. Hate speech is used to provoke individuals or society to cause psychological and physical harm to its victims as it incites violence.

Challenges to deal with hate speech and its solution

To deal with hate speech properly stringent laws need to implemented. Also, most of the laws dealing with hate speech are either ineffective or ambiguous, which, many time make it difficult to differentiate the Hate speech from the Right of Free expression. There is lack of clear legislation dealing with hate speech.

Existing Laws dealing with hate speech issues belongs to pre-internet Era. However, this is era of technology and in current situation we all are aware that Hate speech survives through internet and different mediums of Social media.

Hate Speech is one of the most dangerous problem which is disturbing social and religious harmony. When we define the hate speech, Right of Freedom and Expression under article -19 of Indian constitution comes in between, few would disagree on the point that hate speech is not a freedom of speech but it is a misuse of Right of Freedom and Expression, As J.S. Mills said that “If all mankind minus one were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.”

In Jainism Anekantbad- It is said that there are so many other realities that the reality we may know. So mankind should respect if something is different than his believes. Differences in the believes, ideology, Gender, Religion should be accepted and respected.

In today’s world of Internet, Social media is playing a Vitol role in our life. We need a law to maintain the irregularities over it. Some countries have already made a law that make the Social Media Platforms responsible for any kind of Hate Speech.

Individual should understand their responsibilities towards the Hate Speech and its Impact in a long run, just because something or someone or some ideology or believe system are different than theirs’s, should not be haunted or deserve the hatred towards them.
